FOCUS CORRECTION AREAS

A key element of the Collins Writing Program is its use of "Focus Correction Areas" (FCAs). Focus Correction Areas allow students to systematically improve their writing by zeroing in on a few key aspects of their writing with each assignment. By using the focus area approach, students concentrate on improving only a handful of skills at any one time and never feel overwhelmed by having to think about too many things when creating a piece of work. Over the course of the school year, students cover and master numerous FCAs, resulting in significant improvement in their writing abilities.

KEY BENEFITS OF FOCUS CORRECTION AREAS

  • Emphasis on clearly specified writing criteria
  • Development of individual writing style
  • Promotion of content learning and critical thinking skills
  • Improvement of organizational skills
  • Selective, manageable approach to correcting student writing
